Random blathering about the last two weeks and me, Coachella sets on soulseek, good coffee (I seem to be aspiring to Coffee elitism recently), Mother's Day with the folks, running ad-aware on their PCs, food poisoning, whatever else I can think of. Oh yes, and shemale porn on my parent's computer.

It seems a small handful of us are going to be frying our skin in Palm Springs this weekend. I was going to leave this to the last minute, but whatever. I don't know you, you don't know me, anyone interested in a mini-meetup?

Print Story Ahh, the lazy afternoon sunlight.
Diary
By newht (Mon Apr 12, 2004 at 10:42:05 AM EST) (all tags)
There's something so nice about having afternoons free. Sure it means I get up at 6, but once 12 rolls around I'm done for the day (provided I completely ignore all my reading, which I don't hesitate to say I am a master at).

Newht forgoes the afternoon nap to goof around with his computers. Newht does not get any more sun today. Newht got a little too much sun yesterday. Newht starts playing chess again. Newht is 5-2-0 since yesterday. Newht will blather about science fiction (again). Newht will ponder actually signing up for the free safari trial, two weeks after Newht said Newht would. Newht might even talk about leeching friends if Newht's diary seems too short on preview.

Going to haul my pasty ass out to the community pool. Probably sit and read in the sun for a bit, go for a dip in the (hopefully not too) uriney pool.

A bonus section on whatever the hell I end up typing.

Poll on how sunburned I end up (with pictures if you're lucky.)

Boredom

I'm getting ambitious again.

It is now 10 pm. I have two choices. I can either do the sane thing and do a little work, maybe watch a little bad TV, and go to bed early. Or I can make a double espresso, finally sign up for safari, boot my beleagured PC back into my free, loonie, OS of choice (it only boots into '98 for Civ 3, which I am *hopelessly* addicted to), and actually work on one of the several websites I really need to get started on, none of which I'll be getting paid for... I really need to head over to the career center, see if there are any on or near campus jobs for web-type-thingy-creators who'll be getting degrees in totally different areas.

Print Story The Education of Desire.
Diary
By newht (Fri Apr 02, 2004 at 03:09:31 PM EST) (all tags)
This phrase has been rattling around in my head since Monday.

This is what you should want. This is what you should be trying to attain. This is what is would make heaven on earth. Cynical me keeps drifting towards modern consumerism and commercials. I try not to rant about it, and remind myself that that is another kind of desire entirely. Not only an artificial, manufactured desire, but unnecessary one, and ultimately one not worth the bother to rant about. So what capitol-D Desire should we/I be educating ourselves about?

In other news, I'm a complete sucker for pompous quotes, preferably ones by dead people.

In 'hey waaaaait a minute' news: I just noticed how similar default HuSi colors are to default Apple scrollbar/menu/windowing colors. (yes, I'm one of *those* people.)

It never rains here.  The news is showing people filling sandbags.  It's not flooding they're worried about.  Its mud slides.  Denuded hills full of ash and new grass.  Not enough grass to hold back the hills.
